Confidence

When someone talks about confidence, what do you think of? Do you think oh I wish I had the confidence to do this or this? Maybe you wish you had the confidence to do something massive like a sky dive or swim the great barrier reef, write a book, enter a competition, set yourself a goal to raise money for charity… the list is endless. For some people, however, confidence means something very different, for some people having the confidence to even get out of bed in the morning is excruciating. This to many may not seem like confidence, but it really is. Their confidence is so low that it can take everything they have to get themselves out of bed and face the day. They may lie there for hours telling themselves all sorts of things, making it even harder to get up and do life. Whilst others bounce out of bed without a second thought, have a routine and before they know it their day has started and they are at their dream job, chatting to people they enjoy working with and generally loving life. Why is it one person can bounce out of bed and not even notice they’ve done it? Yet another person just can’t bring themselves to get up, feeling trapped, paralysed with fear, feeling like they can’t move?

Is there something that can be done to help combat this lack of confidence?

The answer is YES! All is not lost and with the right help you can restore confidence in yourself and begin a new journey. A journey of self-discovery (which of course can sound cliché) a journey that takes you from fear to thrive, a journey that takes you to where you want to be. Other people are out there doing it and with the right help you can be too. You can be the person who gets out of bed in the morning without noticing, you can be the person who has the dream job, who enjoys what they are doing, and you can be the person who sets themselves goals and achieves them. Because there is only one thing that is stopping this from happening and it is a lack of confidence in yourself. When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change (Dr Wayne Dyer). Think about this sentence for a moment? Try to establish what this means and what this means for you? What is your current belief in yourself, your ability and what you believe you can achieve? If you believe you can’t get out of bed in the morning, that you don’t want to face the day because you have no confidence in your ability to do so, then that is exactly what you are creating for yourself. BUT if you believe you are worth it, you have a goal for that day and the first step is getting out of bed, the second step is making it… then you are already further than you think.

Our Cognitions (thoughts) are the most powerful things and our cognitions about ourselves are probably the hardest to change, especially if we have been taught to think negative thoughts about ourselves by others. The good news and the most freeing news and one of the most powerful lessons of my life. What others think of me is none of my business. People will always have opinions but that does not make them right or true. So, are you going to continue allowing other people’s thoughts about you control your life or are you ready to take your life back?
